July 3rd, 2010 - 60 day update
We hope everyone is enjoying your summer and getting ready for the holiday weekend. We’d just like to share some exciting updates as we are nearing the 3 month mark of renovations to the Valencia Golf course. We are happy to announce we continue to move forward and are on schedule to reopen for the 2010-2011 season.
During the late month of May through June we’ve removed approx. 5 to 6” of old greens mix and replaced it with new greens mix. In conjunction with adding the new mix to the greens, we added new contours that will eventually be the putting surface. We finished the irrigation installation on the back 9 and practice greens last week and shortly thereafter began the planting of greens and sprigging the new MiniVerde. The back 9 greens are doing well and we’ll begin applying fertilizer and mowing them soon followed by the front 9 here shortly.
June 15th, 2010 - 30 day update
We couldn't have asked for better weather over the last month. The course renovation is moving along on schedule and we're about ready to start planting some greens! We've completed almost all the mix removal and replacement and are running miles and miles of new wiring for the irrigation system. New pictures can be seen online here . May 17th, 2010 - 2 week update
We've been busy over the last few weeks since shutting down and wanted to share an update and some pictures of the renovation process in the works.
Week 1-2 - These past weeks we have marked and relocated the irrigation around the greens via GPS for greater watering efficiency of both green surfaces, and the areas surrounding the green. We then removed the turf from the Putting Green, Chipping Green, and greens 10 - 18. In addition, we started moving #16 tee from its current location (which is too close to the new Oil Well Road expansion) to the East which will be a safe distance from the road.
Upcoming week - We will remove approx. 6" of old mix (soil) form the greens that have had the turf removed and start to replenish that with 6" of new mix. All renovations are on schedule and opening for the beginning of the 2010-2011 season continues to be on schedule.

We are excited to announce that as of May 3rd, 2010 we will be closing our course for the summer to undergo major course renovations including the re-grassing of the greens with MiniVerde, the award winning greens played at the Stadium Course of TPC Sawgrass and the USGA Test Greens of Dallas TX, as well as re-contouring the course and upgrading our irrigation system.
MiniVerde will provide the ultimate performance of play while being more resistant to climate changes experienced in FL for a year round dark green color and the ultimate putting surface. The award winning MiniVerde renovation combined with new irrigation system will place Valencia Golf and Country Club among the best public golf courses SWFL has to offer with a scheduled completion in time for the upcoming 2010-2011 season.
For the past 14 years Valencia Golf and Country Club, a Gordon Lewis designed 7,200 yard 5 tee-box championship course located off Immokalee Rd, has been a favorite public course to golfers in the area and tourist alike earning 4-stars from Golf Digest in 2008-2009 for play. “The 2009-2010 season proved to be one of our best seasons yet despite the harsh weather. We broke several play records this season and put forth serious effort towards improving our players golfing experience. We invested in a new online reservation system allowing patrons to book 24/7 online, focused our efforts on marketing and bringing in new golfers to our course as well as investing the time into surveying all those visiting our course about their experience.” says Chris Armstrong Director of Technology.
